Nearly 60 years ago, Paul J. Henegan hatched an idea that there was a place in the building world for a new kind of construction company that had the sophistication of its corporate clients and intimately understood their needs, the creativity and vision of their architects and engineers, the technical know-how to build, the passion for innovation, and the business savvy to package and sell it to Wall Street and beyond.  He called it Henegan Construction Company.

HENEGAN was founded in 1959 and has grown and changed with the corporate and commercial real estate community we serve. With a team of five people, we completed our first assignment in the financial district.  We have expanded and grown to a firm with hundreds of clients in varied sectors, and thousands of completed projects.

Through the years, HENEGAN has proudly collaborated with some of the world’s biggest business leaders to play a small but vital role in making the great City of New York what it has been and will always be:  a living, growing, evolving center of the universe, where millions go to work each day.

HENEGAN is sought out by demanding clients who require professionalism, responsiveness, accountability, and the most advanced techniques, systems and methods of building. We routinely meet those needs by completing large, complex infrastructure projects, green building projects, high tech data facilities and trading floors, building lobby renovations, corporate headquarters relocations and restacks, and alterations of existing and occupied space.

In times of crisis, HENEGAN has been called upon to respond quickly when our clients and our City are affected by natural and man-made disasters.  Immediately following the attacks of 9/11/2001 and during the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy in October of 2012, HENEGAN was called and sprang into action to ensure our clients were able to protect their employees and continue doing business while we quickly studied and offered solutions to their urgent needs.

Our long experience in New York City and the Tri-State area enables us to navigate agencies and regulations with ease and to anticipate issues before they become problems. We have an in-house building department specialist, many LEED Accredited Professionals and OSHA-certified staff. Our Principals and all levels of management provide dedicated and personalized service. Our longevity has allowed us to develop strong relationships with some of the most highly regarded architectural, engineering, project management and real estate firms, the finest suppliers and the most reliable trade contractors.

  • MAUREEN A. HENEGAN, JD, LEED AP

    Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

    Upon taking over the leadership of Henegan Construction Co., Inc., from her father in 1991, Maureen had served the company in various capacities -- including legal counsel, financial officer, marketing and communications coordinator, project manager and administrative assistant -- since 1975.  As Chairman and CEO, she has assembled a winning team of talent that has grown and developed the company’s reputation to the preeminent status it maintains within the construction industry today, and has received accolades on behalf of Henegan confirming its esteem.  She serves on the Boards of the NY Building Congress, Nontraditional Employment for Women (“NEW”), the Building Contractors Association NY (“BCA”), the College of Mount St. Vincent, and Covenant House NY.  She is a member of the NYS Bar Association, Young Presidents Organization (YPO), and several other construction/ real estate industry associations, including CoreNet, CREW-NY, and WX.  Maureen holds degrees from Albany Law School and the College of Mount St. Vincent, studied Construction Management and Real Estate at NYU, and pursued executive-level continuing studies at Harvard Business School. Before joining the company full time in 1986, she worked as an attorney in NY State government and in private practice.

  • PAULINUS J. BRYCE

    President & Chief Operating Officer

    Paul joined the company in 1992 as COO, but was not new to Henegan at the time.  He had been working at the company as a project manager ten years earlier when a prestigious client of the company recognized his leadership talents and invited him to join their team as a real estate, construction, and facilities executive.  With over 40 years of experience in construction -- from building houses, to complex building infrastructure projects, to large-scale, intricate and fast-track tenant improvements -- he is truly an expert in building projects as well as teams.  Known for his direct communications and honesty, many a Henegan estimator, project manager and field superintendent has been guided by his expertise in scheduling, cost control, quality control, and all aspects of serving our commercial and institutional clientele.   A native of Northern Ireland, Paul is actively involved in the Irish-American community and is an avid golfer.

  • THOMAS J. MANGAN

    Executive Vice President

    Tom has more than 35 years experience in the construction industry.  Over the course of his career, He has held various positions including Field Supervisor and Project Manager.  He has been with Henegan since 1992, managing large scale interior renovation projects as well as several on-call corporate accounts.  His role at Henegan now is one of leading, mentoring and guiding future leaders of the company and actively using his wisdom and experience to see several significant and prestigious projects through to fruition.  His education and sensibilities as an artist and craftsman combined with his rigorous front-lines construction experience bring much value to any project in all areas of design, technical execution and quality control.  Tom earned his BFA degree from The San Francisco Art Institute, studied in the MA Program at SFSU, and pursued Construction Management studies at NYU.

  • STEVEN P. SCHERTZ, CPA

    Chief Financial Office & Treasurer

    As CFO of Henegan, Steve reports directly to the CEO and President on all financial, human resources, and compliance matters.  A CPA, he is responsible for maintaining the company’s strong balance sheet and closely monitoring income and profitability, as well as the efficiency of internal processes.  Prior to joining the company full time in 2014, Steve worked as a “part-time CFO” consultant, a transition planning advisor, and in financial management, internal audit, treasury, finance and accounting positions for various real estate, manufacturing, and logistics companies, both public and closely held.  Steve is active as an officer of the NY Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association ("CFMA") and has served his home community of Tinton Falls, NJ, in various elected roles.  He is a certified SCUBA Diver and an avid golfer.  He received his BBA degree from Bernard Baruch College of the City University of NY.

  • CATHERINE A. ZIEGLER

    Senior Vice President - General Counsel &

    Corporate Secretary

    Cate reports directly to the CEO and President on all legal matters including providing advice on transactions of business involving internal affairs, stockholders, directors, officers, client and subcontractor relations, and employment matters.  She works closely with senior management advising on potential legal liability, legal rights and obligations of the company.  She’s involved in most projects, drafting or reviewing and often negotiating all contracts and subcontracts.  She also manages outside counsel handling corporate matters as well as insurance claims and litigation.  Cate is admitted to the NYS Bar as well as the U.S. District Court, Southern and Eastern District of NY and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.  She is a member of the NYS Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and has been a Featured Speaker for NYS Bar Association programs.  Prior to joining Henegan full time in 2000, Cate was a partner in a law firm specializing in construction and employment litigation, as well as all aspects of Corporate and Commercial law.  She earned her JD degree at Wake Forest University School of Law, and her BA in English at LeMoyne College.

  • NANCY E. PEARL

    Senior Vice President - Finance & Administration

    Joining the company in 1976, Nancy was Henegan’s bookkeeper. Her expertise now extends to the day-to-day handling of all corporate and job-related financial matters as well as the management of our accounting department.  In addition to her financial and accounting contributions, Nancy is responsible for many aspects of Henegan’s Human Resources functions.  She was educated in Business and Accounting at Hofstra University, Uniondale, NY, and State University of NY, Farmingdale, NY.  She is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA).

  • ARTHUR R. THOMSON

    Senior Vice President - Business Development

    Art is renowned in the real estate, design, and construction community for his relationship and network-building skills and warm hospitality.  It is fitting, then, that his mission at Henegan since joining the company full time in 1991 has been to maintain and grow existing client relationships,  develop new ones, and represent Henegan well in the industry community.  Mr. Thomson is a graduate Architect who, before joining Henegan, had over 25 years of corporate facilities experience for Fortune 500 companies where he managed architectural and design services, coordinated the construction and maintenance of owned and leased facilities, and implemented large annual capital budgets.  Art is actively involved in the NY Chapter of CoreNet Global and contributes much of his time in the support of his favorite causes:  SHARE (serving those afflicted with breast and ovarian cancers and their families) and St. Francis Food Pantries.  He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Cooper Union College, New York, NY.

  • MICHAEL R. COHEN

    Senior Vice President - Preconstruction

    Michael joined Henegan in 1998 and is now responsible for the successful fulfillment of all bidding, estimating, and budgeting functions of the company.  He manages our response to all client invitations to bid, to submit proposals, and personally to present our proposals, teams and credentials.  With over 25 years in the industry, he is known for his ability to analyze and deliver complex technical projects under the most demanding time constraints while still maintaining an outstanding finished product.  For years, he was dedicated solely to the account of the world’s largest and most influential financial services firm, with the responsibility for nearly one million square feet of buildout including numerous high profile special projects.  He was instrumental in Henegan’s twice receiving that firm’s prestigious Five Star Vendor Service Quality Award – the first ever bestowed on a construction company.  Michael earned his BS in Applied Sciences in Engineering from Rutgers University.

  • DAVID P. MULLEN

    Senior Vice President - Engineering

    David leads our MEPS (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural) Department.  He joined the company in 2000, having worked several years for a highly regarded design and consulting engineering firm.  He has successfully managed and overseen many complex projects throughout the United States.  His meticulous, detailed and results-oriented approach to technical issues of design, construction, value engineering, and quality have earned him a reputation as one of the best in NYC when it comes to projects that involve mission critical facilities, emergency disaster recovery efforts, data centers, UPS battery systems, diesel engine generators, fuel pumping systems, transfer switching, fire alarm and security systems, and all matters of building infrastructure.  David earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from the Manhattan College School of Engineering.  He is a Licensed Building Supervisor in Massachusetts (Unrestricted), a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, and is a currently working towards his Professional Engineering License.  He is 30-Hour and 10-Hour OSHA Certified.

  • MARY E. LYONS

    Senior Vice President - General Manager

    Mary’s role at Henegan defies description.  Since 1974, she has managed, supported, directed, and coordinated most administrative functions of the company – and holds the most institutional memory of any member of the senior management team.  Those functions include Executive/Administrative Support and supervisor of administrative staff; Organization and Scheduling; Deployment of Field Personnel and jobsite support; Building Department Coordination; Union Relations; Vendor insurance compliance; Maintaining client information database; and General Office Procedures.   Mary is OSHA, CPR, and First-Aid certified.

  • G. RAY NAMI

    Vice President - Special Projects

    Ray joined Henegan in 2004 and brings to his job as our VP-Special Projects a unique background that includes a professional education, and over 35 years experience working in design, owner-side management and administration in both public and private sectors, and as a hands-on builder.  He has in innate sense of logistics, coordination, and scheduling and relates well to the requirements of Owner, Architect, Engineer, and Subcontractor.  He has orchestrated the successful completion of many significant projects, including, notably, a Co-Generation Power Plant built on Riker’s Island for the NYC Department of Corrections.  Ray holds Masters degrees in Business (Adelphi U.) and Engineering (Manhattan College) and a BS in Architecture Technology from NY Institute of Technology.  He is 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certified.

  • ROBERT RUSSO, PE, LEED AP

    Vice President - Project Management

    Rob’s experience in construction management consists of large scale, multi-million dollar civil and building projects as well as facilities renovations.  He joined Henegan in 2004 and is well versed in troubleshooting contract changes, maintaining schedules, coordinating with project agencies and other parties, and meeting the client’s needs for communication, efficiency and cost control.  As Civil Engineering Officer and Squadron Commander in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for over 18 years (of which 7 years were in Active Duty), Rob is continuously honing his management and project development skills.  He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Air Force Reserve and a Licensed Civil Engineer (PE).  He holds a BS Civil Engineering degree from Villanova University.  Member, A.S.C.E.

  • JOHN WINTER

    Vice President - Operations

    John joined Henegan in 2000 and has successfully scheduled and completed projects involving small relocations and renovations as well as complete multi-floor buildouts for financial institutions and other institutional and corporate clientele. Prior to his time at Henegan, he successfully completed land development and ground-up construction projects.  As VP-Operations, John is responsible for the staffing, safety and on-site functioning of all Henegan field operations.  He holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from NY Institute of Technology.

  • TATYANA ETIN

    Chief Estimator

     

    Tatyana is responsible for the day-to-day work flow of our Estimating department.  She joined Henegan as an Estimator in 2009 and has over 26 years of progressive experience in construction and engineering. Recognized for exceptional ability to manage capital, budgetary and conceptual cost estimates and proposal pricing, she handles negotiations and buy-outs with both clients and subcontractors. She earned her MS in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnical University in Minsk, Belarus.
